We haunt ourselves

As a nine year old boy on a school task In 1974 I sat in, what were then open fields - opposite the houses above - and drew the short row of terraces - I then came across this drawing for the first time again after 25 years -  in the cellar of the very house I had drawn - the house I had bought as a home.

I had drawn and recorded to paper my own future house unknowingly and then 25 years later discovered the drawing in an old folio whilst in the bowels of that very house. Real time travel indeed.

Following on from the tales of de ja vu 'Musso' moorland walks and unknown shared ancestral geographies across two centuries - evolving research about the possibility of DNA carrying ancestral memory heightens the possibility of memory and experience not being just our own. Is dormant memory locked within DNA triggered and 'awakened' in ourselves by events ? Do we 'feel' the memory of this encounter - experienced by our past family ? This affected or 'moved' memory - of your Father or Grandmother - their fear of heights due to a War experience - and not just trauma but also strong positive experiences of discovery - deep connections with certain landscapes, people or spaces - 'Impressed' into the DNA and memory. If ever proved to be correct this theory opens up amazing possible explanations for such senses of place - 'de ja vu' and strong connections between people and places

  1. I just wrote something very, very similar to c.j. on the network! I was asking if she thought pattern held memory of deep time, prior to our lifeline, as Erica Wright (network) work suggests.
